Oscar-winning Spanish actor Javier Bardem has thrown his support behind a campaign demanding that American singer P!nk be removed as a UNICEF ambassador, sharing multiple posts urging his Instagram followers to sign the petition.
The petition has now attracted more than 175,000 signatures.
The campaign erupted after rapper Macklemore repeatedly declared “Free Palestine” while opening for Ed Sheeran at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey and displayed images from Gaza during his performance.
P!nk subsequently shared a post from pro-Israel advocacy group StopAntisemitism accusing Macklemore of subjecting concertgoers to “anti-Israel propaganda” and arguing that fans deserved an apology and refund.
Explaining her criticism, P!nk cited Macklemore’s controversial 2014 costume, for which he apologized, and said his latest performance frightened Jewish members of the audience.
“You don’t get to decide that for us,” she wrote, while stressing that she supports Palestinians having “a future that honors their humanity and their aspirations” and believes protecting innocent lives must come first.
The Change . org campaign argues that P!nk’s conduct is incompatible with her position as a UNICEF ambassador and calls on the organization to remove her.
Ancy Sojan won silver in the women’s long jump at the Asian Games after recording a best effort of 6.53m. She led for much of the final, but China’s Huang Yingying produced a 6.55m jump on her final attempt to snatch gold. India’s Shaili Singh also missed out on the podium after finishing fourth.
