Die Linke wants to restrict certain police checks, shift some responsibilities from police to social services and replace Berlin’s domestic intelligence agency, the Verfassungsschutz, with an independent monitoring body. Its soft approach to so-called “clan crime” has also drawn criticism from police representatives.
