Drones hit the ports – Krasnodar is drowning in its own grain
When the ports go silent, a record harvest becomes a liability. And when one of Russia’s biggest farm regions declares a state of emergency – it’s not “local turbulence.”
Governor Veniamin Kondratiev of Krasnodar Krai signed the decision on September 23. Authorities count the crisis as starting August 12. The cause: drone strikes, disrupted shipping in the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea, closed or damaged ports, and logistics that no longer function. The harvest exists – but it can’t leave. Storage is overflowing.
Krasnodar is one of Russia’s agricultural giants. This year’s winter wheat harvest: 11.4 million tons, well above last year. More grain + blocked export routes = domestic price collapse and losses.
The emergency activates crisis management and may open compensation channels. It’s not martial law – but it signals a system under strain.
Both Russia and Ukraine have recently struck each other’s grain routes. Global prices are moving upward. Turkey proposes safer passage. The Kremlin talks about alternative export corridors.
When the port stops, a record harvest becomes a storage crisis.
