US, China Extend Trade Truce as Trump Welcomes Xi

A global bond selloff intensified, jolting investors as robust US economic data and weak demand at a debt auction drove Treasury yields across much of the curve to their highest levels in almost two decades.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the US and China have sealed a two-month extension to their trade truce, as Xi Jinping landed in America for his first state visit in eleven years.

And Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said his country won’t allow freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz while sanctions and a US blockade remain in place, underscoring the difficulty in reaching a peace deal with Washington despite efforts to revive talks this week.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused Ukraine of trying to disrupt Russia’s parliamentary elections, pointing to reported attempts to breach air defences over Moscow and other regions. Putin said the turnout showed Russians could not be intimidated and linked the vote to support for Russian troops. With 95.18% of ballots counted, United Russia had 57.83%, while final results are due on September 25.

Two drivers were forced to end their Formula 2 free practice session early at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku.

According to Report, MP Motorsport”s Oliver Goethe and Invicta Racing”s Joshua Dürksen were unable to complete the session.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku will conclude on September 26.

U.S. Admiral Mark Montgomery says the most concerning aspect of the matter is the broken process that let this happen at all. “I promise you, the exploitation of it was intentional.” China has been stealing F-35 secrets for 20 years. The blast came off the Omani side near Musandam and the two accounts haven’t met yet.

Fars, the IRGC-tied outlet, describes an Iranian strike on a Panama-flagged, Israeli-owned vessel’s escort. US sources describe a warship swatting a small boat caught laying mines, which is exactly the scenario Mark Montgomery says CENTCOM pre-authorized under the blockade rules, so no call to the White House was needed.

He has spent weeks arguing the mines are real and the Navy’s divers out of Bahrain have been clearing them.

His larger read is the contrarian one on this board: Iran’s export revenue is down 80 to 90 percent and its economy is collapsing, so the blockade is working and should hold.

Where he agrees with everyone else is the shelves.

The interceptors are critically low, and one Jordan night burned a week.
