Starting this Friday, the United States will impose new tariffs on imports from 60 trading partners, covering 99 percent of all goods entering the country. The new measures replace the temporary 10 percent global tariff introduced 150 days ago after the Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump’s previous sweeping tariff plan. The administration says the latest tariffs are aimed at addressing concerns over goods produced with forced labour. Peter O’Brien reports.

President Trump threatened to escalate strikes on Iran and said he’d hold the country responsible for any further attacks by the Yemen-based Houthis on ships in the Red Sea, as the widening Middle East war puts new strain on global energy supplies.

And Volkswagen cut its revenue expectations for the year as falling sales in China intensify pressure on Chief Executive Officer Oliver Blume’s push to overhaul Europe’s largest carmaker.
