Britain’s new Prime Minister Andy Burnham is considering Ali Milani, chairman of the Labour Muslim Network, for a position in Downing Street’s digital communications team after Milani helped with Burnham’s social media during his campaign for Parliament and the Labour leadership.

Milani previously claimed the 9/11 terrorist attacks were a “false flag” and said it was his position that the US government knew of the attacks in advance.

Milani also apologized for old social-media posts in which he called for Israel’s destruction, referred to Piers Morgan as “a Zionist” and made a derogatory stereotype-based remark about Jews.

In 2025, Milani dismissed the political debate surrounding Britain’s grooming gangs scandal as a “racist campaign,” arguing that the discussion was not genuinely about the victims or crimes.

In 2015, he signed a letter opposing the National Union of Students’ boycott of Cage, after the advocacy group’s research director described ISIS executioner Mohammed Emwazi, known as “Jihadi John,” as a “beautiful young man.” The letter called allegations of extremism against Cage “baseless, Islamophobic smears.”

Milani has also campaigned against the use of the term “Islamism,” arguing that it is used by Islamophobes as another way of referring to all Muslims.

The Labour Muslim Network, which he chairs, has claimed that demands for Muslims to disavow Hamas are rooted in Islamophobia and currently sells a “Scrap Prevent” T-shirt opposing the government’s counter-extremism program.
