Small hydropower plants Chirag-1, Chirag-2, Soyugbulag, Meydan, and Gamishli in Azerbaijan’s Kalbajar district have passed international registration to obtain carbon certificates, Report informs, citing Azerenerji OJSC.
The project is being implemented jointly with SOCAR Trading.
The plants are expected to confirm a carbon emission reduction of 37,000 tons per year, after which international carbon certificates will be issued to them, the company noted.
In January of this year, the Mirik and Garagishlag hydropower plants in Lachin received 10,745 carbon credits from the Gold Standard international organization.
“Currently, the process of international registration for the Mishni, Alkhasli, and Agbulag-2 hydropower plants located in Lachin continues. Simultaneously, international experts are evaluating the project documentation prepared to obtain carbon certificates for the Shayifli, Jahangirbayli, Zangilan, and Sheylanli hydropower plants located in Zangilan,” the statement reads.
