A hearing in the case of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores has ended in a New York court, Report informs, citing foreign media.
The hearing lasted about 20 minutes and focused on setting the schedule for the trial.
Judge Alvin Hellerstein set June 1, 2027, as the start date for the hearings, in line with a motion filed by prosecutors.
After the hearing, the defendants were to be taken to a prison in Brooklyn, where they have been held since January 2026.
US President Donald Trump said on January 3 that the United States had successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela. He said Maduro and his wife had been captured and removed from the country.
Two days later, on January 5, Maduro and Flores appeared before a New York court for arraignment. Maduro pleaded not guilty and said he was still the president of his country. The US court agreed to allow visits by Venezuelan consular officials.
The second hearing in the case of Maduro and his wife was held on March 26, 2026, in a federal court in New York, with Judge Alvin Hellerstein presiding.
