Shipping crisis expands to Red Sea as Hormuz traffic stands still


A fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran collapsed amid tensions over the Strait of Hormuz. President Donald Trump is now warning that the US will destroy an Iranian bridge or power plant every time Iran attacks a ship in the strategic waterway. At the same time, threats from Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis are prompting some vessels to turn around rather than risk transiting the Bab el-Mandeb Strait at the southern end of the Red Sea. With two of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints under pressure, fears are growing of wider disruption to global trade and energy supplies.

A group of Israeli tourists was violently attacked by more than 10 young men in Budva, Montenegro, according to one of the victims. The victim told Israeli media that the attackers cursed at them, kicked them and threw chairs during the assault. One Israeli suffered a broken jaw, while another collapsed and fainted due to the severity of the beating. The attack comes just weeks after another antisemitic incident in Plav, Montenegro, where Israeli tourists were harassed by two locals. In a video, the pair can be heard telling the Israelis: “Taking a break from genocide? You shouldn’t be out traveling, stay in the place you call Israel.” The locals also accused the tourists of being “baby kill
