The brothers, identified as Ali A., Besam A., Omar A., and Salih A., believed the 67-year-old teacher was having an affair with their mother. Prosecutors said they lured him to the parking lot of the Wedel Adult Education Center by claiming one brother needed help with a German-language assignment.
Once there, one brother distracted the teacher while another slashed his neck from behind before stabbing him multiple times in the neck and torso, leaving him with life-threatening injuries. A third brother took part in the attack while the fourth acted as a lookout, the court found.
The victim had spent years teaching German to refugees and had previously taught both the attackers’ parents. Prosecutors said the brothers learned of the alleged relationship with their mother the night before the attack and planned the assault in retaliation.
The two adult brothers were each sentenced to 7.5 years in prison, the 19-year-old received 6 years under juvenile law and the youngest brother, who was 17 at the time of the attack, was sentenced to 4 years.
