NEW: US completes latest wave of Iran strikes as naval blockade resumes

Stephen Schork, co-founder of Schork Group, joins LiveNOW’s Anna Marsick to discuss how energy markets are reacting to the latest U.S. strikes in and around the Strait of Hormuz.

In a post on X, the U.S. military said, “U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) completed an additional round of strikes against Iran at 10 p.m. ET, July 14, hitting dozens of military targets near the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian coastal areas.”

The U.S. reinstated its naval blockade on Iran this week after Tehran’s recent attacks on vessels in the waterway. Meantime, Trump also scrapped plans to charge fees in the strait.

Iran war: Trump replaces Strait of Hormuz fee with Gulf investments

The U.S. has launched targeted military strikes on Iran on July 14, coming just hours after President Donald Trump promised to reinstate a shipping blockade of Iranian ports. The new blockade is scheduled to take official effect the morning of July 15 and will specifically apply only to commercial vessels traveling to or from Iranian ports. Trump stated that Iran is heavily destabilized, noting that its military power is currently just a tiny fraction of what it was four months ago.

President Trump is also backing off his original proposal to impose a 20% toll on ships utilizing the Strait of Hormuz. Moving away from the concept of a fee, the revised plan instead calls for Gulf countries to make sizeable investments in the United States in exchange for free transit and ongoing American protection. Trump explained that he dislikes the concept of a fee, but added that it is unfair for the U.S. to protect the crucial shipping strait for the entire world without compensation.

The military action prompted retaliatory drone and missile attacks from Iran directed at America’s Middle East allies. Iranian representative Zolfaghari warned that if the conflict spreads, the flames of war will engulf every country in the region. Military expert Keane observed that the U.S. will deal with the situation appropriately, as diplomatic efforts are sought to prevent an all-out war.
