“It’s my honor to ask (Lindsey’s) little sister, Darline Graham, to finish his work for him now.”
Darline Graham Nordone spoke with McMaster on the idea of being her late brother’s replacement “in the wee hours of Sunday morning” after Graham’s death, McMaster explained. Nordone described the opportunity as a great honor, saying, “Lindsey has always been there for me, and now, I will be there for him.”
Reactions to the decision have begun to pour in. Congressman Jim Clyburn offered his congratulations and hopes that they “will work diligently together, as we have in the past.”
A special election will be held to determine who will run in Graham’s spot come November, as he won the popular vote in the Republican primary earlier this year before his death. Graham Nordone will serve until the end of her brother’s term, which will end in January, before being taken over by whoever wins the popular vote in the November election.
The announcement is in accordance with President Donald Trump’s recommendation yesterday on Truth Social that McMaster name Darline Graham Nordone as the successor.

President Trump was taking questions in the Oval Office of the White House on Monday, local time, when he hit out at CNN and its reporter, Kaitlan Collins.
“You read fake news like your network, CNN, which is fake news,” he said.
“You have them say, ‘well, actually, aren’t they (Iran) doing quite well?’.
“All they have is the fake news because the fake news would rather see us lose the war than win the war, which is really treasonous.”
More Key Takeaways:
The US naval blockade had a limited but notable effect on Iranian willingness to continue fighting in Spring 2026 and was critical to securing the memorandum of understanding (MoU). Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, reportedly fearful of the US blockade and the deteriorating economic situation in Iran, implored Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei to accept the June 18 MoU despite the supreme leader’s concerns and desire to retain control over the Strait of Hormuz. Pezeshkian’s efforts to secure the MoU do not imply that other elements of the Iranian regime were seriously affected by the blockade, however.
The recent MoU breakdown and the reimposition of the US naval blockade can cause negative political effects within Iran that are not immediately related to a breakdown in the regime’s willingness to continue the fight. The regime’s decision to continue firing into the Strait of Hormuz ultimately reignited the war, and the regime will need to argue the case to its own people and among itself as to why continuing the conflict is necessary. This situation will likely revive the intra-regime debate over how to handle the strait, economy, and negotiations with the United States.
The United States and Iran are in a new phase in the war, and both sides have had time to internalize lessons and reconstitute after the initial round of conflict. (1/2)
