The European Parliament held a key plenary debate on the proposed 28th Tax Regime, an initiative designed to simplify business rules for startups and scale-ups operating across the European Union. MEPs discussed whether a common optional tax framework could strengthen the EU Single Market, reduce bureaucracy, attract investment, prevent companies from relocating abroad, and improve Europe’s global competitiveness.
The debate also highlighted concerns over tax sovereignty, fiscal harmonization, workers’ rights, tax avoidance, and the balance between EU integration and Member State authority. Supporters argue the proposal could help innovative businesses scale across Europe, while critics warn against excessive centralization and erosion of national tax powers.
Stay tuned for the latest updates from the European Parliament on EU competitiveness, taxation, innovation, startups, and economic policy.
