Day: July 8, 2026

Global markets are once again focused on the Middle East as tensions in the Strait of Hormuz intensify. The US has revoked Iran’s oil waiver, moved to block Iranian oil sales, and carried out strikes on Iranian air defense systems, while Iran reportedly launched drone attacks targeting Bahrain. The renewed escalation has triggered the largest wave of attacks in the Strait of Hormuz since the US-Iran peace agreement, disrupting tanker traffic and increasing concerns over global energy supplies, with fresh geopolitical risks weighing on bond markets.
We also cover SK Hynix’s reported oversubscribed US listing, Samsung’s expansion of Vera Rubin memory production, Amazon’s latest bond sale receiving a weaker than expected market response, reports that SpaceXAI and Cursor are preparing a new AI model, and Microsoft’s continued shift toward its own artificial intelligence across some applications. In Africa, Kenya advances plans for a refinery project valued at up to $17 billion, while Ugandan farmers challenge the East African crude oil pipeline in a UK lawsuit.
In financial markets, semiconductor stocks retreat after a powerful rally, South Korea’s KOSPI extends its decline, NATO agrees to $50 billion in new defense deals following pressure from President Trump, Trump signals the US could sell F-35S fighter jets to Turkey, and Turkish defense company Aselsan reports a sharp increase in military orders. Guests Includes Vincent Juvyns ING Belgium Chief Investment Strategist; Andrejka Bernatova, Dynamix Founder, Chairman, and CEO; and Ahmet Akyol, Aselsan CEO.
