The U.S. Coast Guard has released additional details on the June 22 MH-60T “Jayhawk” helicopter crash on Harbor Mountain near Sitka, Alaska.
All four crew members sustained only minor injuries and were released from the local hospital the same day. While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, a newly released photo from U.S. Coast Guard District Arctic shows the aircraft sustained extensive damage.
Beginning next week, the Alaska Army National Guard’s Downed Aircraft Recovery Team will begin recovery operations at the crash site, which remains closed to the public due to hazardous conditions. In the meantime, Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak continues supporting search & rescue coverage while Air Station Sitka works toward resuming flight operations next week.
