Australian Islamic terrorist Naveed Akram was closely connected to Isaac El Matari, who is serving a seven-year prison sentence for planning an ISIS insurgency as the self-declared Australian commander of the terrorist group.
Matari was part of an ISIS cell with several other Sydney men who have since been convicted of terrorism offences and were also closely linked to Naveed Akram.
An official said Australia’s intelligence agency ASIO took an interest in Akram six years ago after police foiled plans for an ISIS terrorist attack. Australian police also believed that Akram had pledged allegiance to ISIS.
An ISIS flag was found in the men’s car at Bondi Beach, where the attack took place.
Two Islamic terrorists, Naveed Akram and his father Sajid, opened fire at a Hanukkah event near Bondi Beach in Sydney.
At least 15 people were killed, including a 10-year-old girl. Forty-two people were taken to hospital, including police officers. Some remain in critical condition.

The “person of interest” detained by law enforcement in connection with yesterday’s shooting at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, has been identified as Benjamin Erickson, 24, who previously served in the U.S. Army as a decorated infantryman in a position supporting funeral details at Arlington National Cemetery. According to a spokesman for the Army who spoke to CNN, Erickson had no prior deployments and separated last year at the rank of Specialist. Erickson appears to have had no previously known criminal history and had been taking online classes with a focus on psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, before transferring earlier this year to Brown.
