A illegal migrant on the run from the Italian police has been captured after he was spotted hiding in a nativity scene, posing as a shepherd.
The 38-year-old Ghanaian migrant went missing in Bologna after he was given a nine-month prison sentence for assault, only to be found standing like a statue in the lifesize nativity scene in a public square in Galatone, a small town in Puglia in southern Italy.
“I was strolling past the nativity scene and noticed that apart from Joseph, Mary, Jesus and a shepherd, there was a second shepherd I had not seen before,” Flavio Filoni, the mayor of Galatone, said.
The man was standing amid hay bales, to the right of the crib, with his arms raised as if pretending to be a statue.
He later told the mayor that he was currently living in the nativity scene and “that he was trying to hide”
