Jared Kushner’s role in U.S. national security strategy was primarily in the areas of Middle East diplomacy and government innovation, rather than direct involvement in the formal drafting or a specific overall “strategy change” document.
During the first Trump administration, where he served as a senior advisor, his influence on national security was largely focused on:
Middle East Peace: Kushner was a key architect of the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and several Arab nations. This was a significant diplomatic shift in U.S. foreign policy toward the region. He was given a broad portfolio to broker peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
Alternative Diplomacy Channels: He often worked outside traditional State Department channels, leveraging personal relationships with foreign leaders (such as Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman). This unconventional approach allowed for direct negotiations on sensitive issues.
Specific Foreign Policy Issues: He was involved in a range of specific, high-level negotiations, including trade discussions with Mexico and China, and was present during discussions regarding the U.S. strategy in Afghanistan.
Government Innovation: While not a national security change directly, he led the White House Office of American Innovation, a “SWAT team of strategic consultants” designed to modernize government functions, an internal focus related to efficiency and effectiveness.
These articles describe Jared Kushner’s role in Middle East diplomacy and government innovation during his time as a senior advisor:

While he was an influential figure present at many high-level meetings, the official, broader 2017 National Security Strategy document and its subsequent implementation were primarily the work of the formal National Security Council and its advisors (such as H.R. McMaster and Dina Powell), rather than Kushner himself. His role was more as a presidential troubleshooter and dealmaker on specific, assigned portfolios.

Key Aspects of His Role:Middle East Negotiations: He was central to brokering the and recently, a Gaza ceasefire/hostage deal, utilizing personal relationships with Arab leaders and Israeli figures like Netanyahu.

Focus on “Getting to Yes”: His strategy involves understanding leaders’ bottom lines and pushing for deals, focusing on outcomes rather than lengthy diplomatic processes.
Informal Advisor: He serves as an informal, unpaid advisor, providing input and expertise, often alongside other envoys like Steve Witkoff.
Business & Politics Intertwined: His private equity firm, Affinity Partners, has received significant funding from Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds, creating potential conflicts but which he frames as valuable experience and relationships.
