Russia announced a two-day ceasefire with Ukraine on May 8-9 “in honor of the celebration of the Soviet people’s victory in the Great Patriotic War,” hoping Ukraine will follow suit. The Defense Ministry warned of a massive retaliatory strike on central Kyiv if celebrations are disrupted, urging civilians and foreign diplomats to leave.
