Yesterday, the Dow fell 1,833 points (3.4%), the S&P 500 fell 4.4% and the Nasdaq Composite fell 5.5%, the worst day for all three since April 2025. The selloff erased Wednesday’s post election rally, and all three closed below where they stood a week earlier.
About $3 trillion in value was wiped from S&P 500 companies, according to Reuters. AI and chip stocks led the drop, with the semiconductor index down about 12%. Reuters and CNN tied it to fears that Democratic control of Congress could bring more scrutiny of the AI and data center buildout, but analysts also cited AI valuations and profit taking.
