🚨🇺🇸 Democrats have flipped 43 House seats so far, and the map Republicans redrew to save their majority gave them exactly two
The CBS tally has Democrats taking districts Republicans won by 18, 26 and 38 points two years ago. The chair of the House GOP’s campaign arm, Richard Hudson, lost his own seat.
Rob Wittman, who ran the Armed Services Committee, lost a Virginia district Republicans held since 1977.
Mike Turner is out after 24 years, Victoria Spartz lost by surprise, Jeff Van Drew’s “solid red” South Jersey seat went blue, and Brian Fitzpatrick, who broke with Trump on Iran, lost anyway.
Iowa goes from four Republicans to one; Montana sends its first Democrat in 30 years; Texas’s 15th elected a Tejano singer, Bobby Pulido, in a district rebuilt to keep it Republican.
The redistricting war ended in a rout: Texas Republicans redrew five seats to pick up five and got one, while California Democrats answered with five of their own and took all five.
The gerrymander Trump pushed last year cost his party a net three seats, and the members who lost include the two chairmen who would have had to defend the Iran war’s budget.
