First lady Melania Trump hosted representatives of Russia and Ukraine at the White House today, which the White House says is believed to be the first time a first lady has brought together representatives of two nations at war. The release names Kirill Dmitriev and human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova for Russia, and David Arakhamia and human rights commissioner Dmytro Lubinets for Ukraine.
Mrs. Trump said she acted as “Exclusive Intermediary” in the Oleshky ceasefire, with her role “memorialized in written agreements” signed by both sides October 23rd, and that she reviewed demining plans, aerial images and evacuation routes. She said nearly 800 people were evacuated.
Ukrainian representatives presented her with Ukraine’s Order of Princess Olga, First Class. She gave letters to Dmitriev and Arakhamia to deliver to Putin and Zelenskyy.
