Democrat Abdul El-Sayed had a few words for President Donald Trump during his victory speech early Wednesday.
After defeating Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan’s U.S. Senate race, El-Sayed joked about his upcoming swearing-in and addressed Trump directly.
El-Sayed will become the first Muslim U.S. senator.
Democrat James Talarico defeated Republican Ken Paxton to flip a U.S. Senate seat in Texas, ending more than 30 years without a statewide Democratic victory. “We just took back Texas,” he told cheering supporters in Austin, saying his campaign was ushering in a “politics of love.”
