In this true case, an elderly woman received a fake Microsoft security warning that claimed her computer was infected. After calling the number on the screen, scammers convinced her to withdraw $25,000 from her bank and then directed her to deposit the cash into a cryptocurrency ATM.
As I reviewed this case, one question kept coming to mind…
Could one simple conversation at the bank have changed the outcome?
Fortunately, law enforcement was able to intervene and recover the victim’s money…minus the cryptocurrency ATM transaction fees, but there are important lessons for all of us.
This video isn’t about placing blame. It’s about recognizing warning signs, starting conversations, and working together to protect victims before they lose their life savings.
