Syrian-born Ibrahim Daly, 23, has been sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of attempting to rape a woman he had just met in Glasgow.
The court heard Daly met the victim in Glasgow city center before the two briefly went for a drink and later walked to Glasgow Green late at night. There, he grabbed her, violently attacked her, and attempted to force himself on her.
The woman fought back and eventually managed to escape. Daly was later caught on CCTV running from the scene.
Judge Alistair Watson described the attack as “violent and sustained,” telling Daly: “Your victim entrusted her safety with you by going to the park in the dark.”
Daly left Syria in 2018 and arrived in the UK in 2022. His leave to remain is valid until 2028. The judge noted that he may be deported after completing his sentence.
