Spain’s VOX party has introduced a proposal in Congress calling for tougher immigration and crime laws, including the automatic deportation of all foreign nationals convicted of crimes and requiring them to serve their prison sentences in their countries of origin.
The proposal would amend Article 89 of Spain’s Criminal Code, require authorities to enforce all deportation orders issued against foreign nationals, and publish offenders’ nationalities in the Interior Ministry’s official crime statistics.
VOX also proposes stripping Spanish nationality from naturalized immigrants convicted of crimes and negotiating agreements with third countries and the EU so convicted foreign offenders serve their sentences abroad, with mechanisms to verify those sentences are carried out.
Presenting the proposal, VOX parliamentary spokeswoman Pepa Millán described the measures as “common sense” and said the party would continue pushing policies to reverse what it calls a “mass migration invasion.”
She also criticized the Sánchez government’s immigration policies and said that fraudulent address registrations used in some immigration and family reunification procedures are reportedly being sold for up to €800, and that the practice benefits illegal immigration networks.
