Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has launched a fresh attack on the West, accusing it of repeatedly breaking promises made during past Ukraine peace agreements. Speaking during a visit to Mozambique, Lavrov claimed Western-backed negotiated settlements in 2014, 2015 and 2019 ultimately collapsed because the guarantees were “false.” His remarks come as diplomatic efforts to end the Ukraine war remain stalled and Moscow continues to accuse NATO countries of prolonging the conflict. Is Russia shutting the door on another Western-backed peace initiative, or raising the stakes before future negotiations?
