Political strategist Pavel Dubravsky commented to Alpha News on the outcomes of the NATO summit in Turkey.
“I think there are several key points worth highlighting after the NATO summit. First, the question of Russian-Ukrainian relations and the settlement of the conflict that currently exists between the two countries. Second, the relationship between Donald Trump and Iran. Third, Greenland, although that topic is probably of somewhat lesser significance at the moment. Beyond that, no particularly concrete or striking statements were made by Trump, other than that the US continues to maintain interest in that region,” said Dubravsky.
According to the expert, Trump is deliberately escalating the situation over Ukraine in order to reach a peaceful settlement more quickly.
“When it comes to Russian-Ukrainian relations, I’d note that Trump is now raising the stakes and acting, as some experts might put it, from a pro-Ukrainian position. However, I don’t think that’s entirely accurate.
I’d point out that the situation with the Patriot systems, which Trump is now talking about transferring to Ukraine, already played out in almost exactly the same way, in terms of political and military strategy, about a year ago. In October 2025, following the meeting in Anchorage, Donald Trump also stated that the systems might be transferred to Ukraine. Literally the next day, he held a phone call with Vladimir Putin.
Today the situation is unfolding along almost the same script. The only difference is that the two presidents were supposed to speak by phone yesterday, but that call didn’t happen. So it seems to me that Trump is deliberately, as he himself puts it, escalating the situation in order to reach a peaceful settlement more quickly,” said Dubravsky.
As for Iran, the political analyst believes Trump doesn’t yet have a clear strategy.
“There are two statements. The first is public. In it, he said the conflict with Iran is ongoing. We can see that the US is maintaining a tough stance and continuing its military actions. The second statement was not made publicly. According to Reuters, on the sidelines of the NATO summit, Trump said that things with Iran were ‘fine’ and that he had no intention of continuing military escalation,” Dubravsky concluded.
