As more than ten days have passed since Venezuela was struck by twin earthquakes, the death toll remains uncertain, with an official balance of at least 3,342 people killed. On the northern coastal part of the country, the hardest-hit region, survivors and volunteers from across the country are taking matters into their own hands : treating the injured, finding shelter, searching for the missing. An economically fragile country caught up in Russia’s hybrid war, Moldova is keen to make progress for a fast path to EU membership. With the opening of the first chapter of accession negotiations, the bloc launched its €1.9 billion investment plan in the country. With this plan, which is conditional on domestic structural reforms, Europe hopes to draw in businesses and drive change in the country.
