In late April 2026, Moscow and the surrounding regions have faced continued aerial pressure from Ukrainian drone operations, part of a broader campaign targeting Russian energy infrastructure and military logistics. [1, 2, 3]
Recent Attack Overviews

Widespread Regional Strikes (Late April 2026): While recent major waves have heavily targeted border regions like Belgorod, where 274 drones were reportedly downed in a single night, Moscow continues to be a frequent secondary target.
Massive March Attack: Earlier in March 2026, Moscow’s Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported foiling one of the largest drone attacks of the year, with approximately 250 drones destroyed on the approach to the capital over two days.
Infrastructure Impact: Ukrainian long-range drones have specifically assailed oil terminals and refineries deep inside Russia to disrupt the economy. For example, the Tuapse refinery was hit for the third time in two weeks as recently as April 28, 2026. [4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10]

Operational Disruption

Airport Closures: Frequent drone incursions often lead to “carpet” plans, where Moscow’s major airports—Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky—suspend flights for safety. This occurred during the large-scale March strikes and several times throughout 2025.
Casualties and Damage: Most drones targeting Moscow are intercepted by air defenses, but falling debris has caused injuries and structural damage. In October 2025, a drone hit an apartment block in Krasnogorsk (a Moscow suburb), injuring five people, including a child. [5, 6, 11, 12, 13]
