The attempted assassination of Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024, was officially determined by the FBI to be the work of a lone gunman, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks. While various theories have circulated regarding the event, investigators found no evidence of a broader intelligence operation or external coordination. [1, 2, 3]
Official Findings vs. Theoretical Claims

Intelligence Operation: Extensive federal and congressional investigations, including those from a bipartisan Congressional Task Force, concluded the incident was the result of “stunning security failures” by the Secret Service, such as inadequate planning and fragmented communication. No evidence has surfaced indicating a coordinated “intelligence operation”.
Mossad Involvement: Claims of Mossad involvement are considered baseless conspiracy theories. These assertions primarily originated from extremist and antisemitic figures online without any supporting factual evidence.
Divine Intervention: Many supporters of Donald Trump, as well as several Republican lawmakers like Speaker Mike Johnson, have publicly credited “divine intervention” for his survival, viewing the near-miss as a miraculous event.
Staged Incident Theories: Some critics on both the left and right have claimed, without evidence, that the event was staged. The FBI and Reuters Fact Check have debunked these claims, noting the genuine loss of life, including attendee Corey Comperatore, and the severe injuries sustained by others.
