The Bar Kokhba Revolt (132–136 CE) was a major Jewish rebellion against Roman rule under Emperor Hadrian, ignited by his plan to rebuild Jerusalem as a pagan city, Aelia Capitolina, and restrictions on Jewish practice. Led by Simon bar Kokhba, the revolt was brutally suppressed by Roman legions, resulting in massive casualties, the near-total destruction of Jewish communities in Judea, and the banning of Jewish religious practices. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Key Aspects of the Conflict:

Causes: Hadrian’s decision to build a Temple to Jupiter on the site of the destroyed Jewish Temple and his prohibition of circumcision.
The Conflict: The rebellion was initially successful, with rebels capturing numerous strongholds and establishing an independent state for over three years.
Roman Response: Hadrian deployed top generals, including Julius Severus, and a significant portion of the Roman army, adopting a scorched-earth policy to crush the rebellion.
Aftermath: Over 500,000 Jews were killed. Hadrian renamed the province from Judea to Syria Palaestina, forbade Jews from entering the newly built Aelia Capitolina (Jerusalem), and sought to eradicate the Jewish religion. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9]

The revolt was the third and final major Jewish–Roman war, marking the end of significant Jewish political presence in the region for centuries. [3, 5]
