A Russian soldier returning from war in Ukraine spent months beating and slashing his wife and child with a knife, forcing them to seek help from a human rights organization, and then killed an unrelated woman in retaliation.
In Irkutsk, a Russian military man, who had previously mistreated his family, returned from the front and escalated his violence: physically assaulting, humiliating, and stabbing his wife and seven-year-old son.
Eventually, the wife and child sought refuge at a human rights center, which agreed to shelter them. Angered that his family was now out of reach, the soldier sought revenge.
He tracked down the center, kidnapped a woman there at random, threatened her with a knife, took her to his home, and strangled her. The victim, a mother of two, had no connection to his wife.
The man is now in custody, and investigators found drugs in his apartment.
