October 7 Attack: Truth, Conspiracies, and searching for Consensus  g.co/gemini/share/cfe723ba57…
Doctor Netanyahu: You made the fundamental diagnostic error, and imposed it on the whole of Israel and on the world. The October 7 is not a primary Hamas operation, they did not even know about it. Behind October 7 is Putin, his GRU, his Wagner Group, and other intelligence services under his control. They trained and used Hamas as their assault paratroopers, the foot soldiers in  this military intelligence assault operation, very sophisticated, long, for years  planned, and very carefully and masterfully thought out. CONDUCT THE INDEPENDENT INTERNATIONAL INVESTIGATION OF THE OCTOBER 7 ATTACK!

This text presents a specific and highly controversial viewpoint regarding the October 7th attack on Israel. Let’s break down the claims and compare them with the widely accepted understanding of the event.

The Mainstream and Consensus View

The overwhelming consensus among Israeli, United States, and other Western intelligence agencies, as well as investigative journalists and regional experts, is that the October 7th attack was planned and executed by Hamas, with significant long-term support from Iran.

Hamas’s Agency: The planning for the attack, known by Hamas as “Operation Al-Aqsa Flood,” was reportedly years in the making. It was directed by Hamas’s leadership, particularly Yahya Sinwar in Gaza and Mohammed Deif, the head of its military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades. The operation demonstrated a high level of indigenous planning, operational security, and coordination by Hamas militants.
Iranian Support: Iran is widely recognized as Hamas’s primary state sponsor. This support includes funding, weapons, and training.1 While the exact level of Iran’s direct involvement in the specific timing and execution of the October 7th attack is debated, its strategic role in enabling Hamas’s military capabilities is not in doubt.
Israel’s Position: The official position of the Israeli government and its security establishment is that Hamas is directly responsible, with Iran as its main backer.

Analysis of the Claims in the Quote

The viewpoint you’ve shared contradicts the mainstream consensus in several key areas:

“Not a primary Hamas operation, they did not even know about it.” This is the most extreme claim and is directly refuted by all available evidence. Hamas immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, and its own fighters carried it out. The idea that the foot soldiers were unaware of the operation they were participating in is not credible.

“Behind October 7 is Putin, his GRU, his Wagner Group…” This allegation places the blame on Russia. While it is true that Russia has complex relationships in the Middle East and has hosted Hamas delegations in Moscow, there has been no credible, publicly presented evidence from any major intelligence agency to support the claim that Russia orchestrated or commanded the attack.
Geopolitical Motive: Proponents of this theory often argue that the attack served Russia’s interests by distracting the United States and its allies from the war in Ukraine and creating instability for the West.
Lack of Evidence: Despite the potential motive, Western and Israeli officials have consistently pointed to Iran, not Russia, as the key state actor behind Hamas.
“Trained and used Hamas as their assault paratroopers…” This suggests a proxy relationship where Hamas was merely a tool for Russian military intelligence. While Hamas fighters have received training from various sources over the years, including Iran and its proxies like Hezbollah, attributing their direction to Russia’s GRU is a fringe theory that is not supported by evidence.
The Call for an Investigation

The quote ends with a call for an “independent international investigation.” Calls for such investigations are common after major international incidents. Currently, several bodies are conducting investigations related to the October 7th attack and the subsequent war, including:

Israel’s internal state commission of inquiry.

Investigations by the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) into alleged war crimes and genocide by both parties in the broader conflict.
In summary, the text you provided outlines a conspiracy theory that shifts responsibility for the October 7th attack from Hamas and its primary backer, Iran, to Russia. This viewpoint is not supported by evidence and stands in stark contrast to the findings of Israeli, U.S., and allied intelligence services.
