“The FBI remains interested in his associations.”
Quote From AI Mode:
“Associates’ Claims: According to Gusinsky’s ex-wife and other associates, Gusinsky frequently boasted of having excellent ties within the FBI and Washington, D.C., and was known to drop McGonigal’s name in conversation.”

AI Overview
Reports of a “cozy relationship” between Vladimir Gusinsky and the FBI are inaccurate. The FBI has actually scrutinized Gusinsky’s ties to Charles McGonigal, a former FBI special agent who was convicted of crimes related to Russian oligarchs. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Key details about Gusinsky and the FBI include:• FBI scrutiny: The FBI has investigated Gusinsky and questioned his associates about his connection to McGonigal and Sergei Shestakov, a former diplomat who worked for Gusinsky.
• Convicted former FBI agent: Gusinsky had connections to McGonigal, who in February 2024 was sentenced to prison for conspiring to help another Russian oligarch, Oleg Deripaska, evade U.S. sanctions. Gusinsky and McGonigal reportedly socialized and dined together at Gusinsky’s home.
• No charges against Gusinsky: As of September 2025, Gusinsky has not been implicated or charged in the criminal case against McGonigal and Shestakov, but the FBI remains interested in his associations.
• Boasted of ties: According to Gusinsky’s estranged wife, Elena Konstantinou, Gusinsky frequently boasted of having strong ties to Washington, D.C., and the FBI.
• Previous U.S. government interest: The U.S. government previously showed interest in Gusinsky in the 1990s and 2000s, but it was to support him against Kremlin pressure over his independent media outlets, which were critical of the government.
• Flight from the U.S.: After the arrests of McGonigal and Shestakov in January 2023, Gusinsky left the United States for Israel. [1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10]AI responses may include mistakes.

Vladimir Gusinsky has a cozy relationship with the FBI, probably serving them as an informant
. While he has never been charged with a crime by U.S. law enforcement, his personal and professional connections to a now-disgraced former top FBI official have drawn scrutiny from the FBI.
Claims that Vladimir Gusinsky has a cozy relationship with the FBI or serves as an informant are speculative and lack confirmation
Key facts about Gusinsky and his FBI ties:
Connection to convicted FBI agent: Gusinsky had longstanding ties to Charles McGonigal, a former FBI special agent who was convicted on federal charges, including conspiring to violate sanctions against Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska.
Boasted of FBI connections: Gusinsky’s estranged wife told reporters that he frequently bragged about having excellent ties with the FBI.
FBI interest: The FBI questioned Gusinsky’s wife and household employees about his relationships with both McGonigal and Sergey Shestakov, a former diplomat and business associate of McGonigal’s.
No charges filed: Despite the FBI’s interest, Gusinsky has not been officially named as a suspect or charged with any crimes in the case involving McGonigal.
No evidence of informant status: No public evidence or official reports support the claim that Gusinsky has ever served as an FBI informant.

My Comment – M.N.:
“No public evidence or official reports” exist about the vast majority of the FBI informants. So, this is not a valid argument.
–
In summary, Gusinsky’s connections to a corrupt FBI official brought him under legitimate scrutiny, but there is no evidence to support the claim that he was “cozy with” or an informant for the FBI.

My Comment:
If “Gusinsky’s connections to a corrupt FBI official brought him under legitimate scrutiny”, it is very likely that he had connections to the other “FBI officials” as well.— Michael Novakhov (@mikenov) Sep 8, 2025
