EU-Israel Relations Under Strain Amidst Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

Recent discussions between the EU’s top diplomat Kaja Kallas and Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar regarding the humanitarian situation have established trust and laid a “strong” foundation for the relationship. However, Sa’ar warned that suspending parts of the association agreement would undermine this goodwill, reports 24brussels.

“We are basically a dream for the EU of a neighboring country,” Regev stated, emphasizing Israel’s democratic values and lack of migration issues. “At the end of the road, Israel is the only player in the region that serves directly the interests of the EU,” he added. Regev expressed “extreme disappointment” over the Netherlands’ decision to join a group of critically inclined nations this year. Additionally, he condemned Germany’s recent ban on arms exports that could be utilized in Gaza, stating, “We do not accept that. We don’t think it is a step that Germany should take.”

Regev emphasized that Europe must recognize the historical context related to Israel and its Jewish population.
