Police in Brooklyn are investigating a police-involved shooting on Thursday afternoon that left one individual critically wounded.

The gunfire erupted at about 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 near the corner of Utica Avenue and Park Place in Weeksville, in the confines of the 77th Precinct.

According to sources familiar with the investigation, it’s believed that the shooting stemmed from a pursuit that began in the 84th Precinct in northern Brooklyn, in which officers were attempting to stop suspects in a recent shooting.

Upon arriving at the Weeksville intersection, the sources said, officers and the individuals in the pursued vehicle traded gunshots. Though no officers were wounded, police said at least two victims were shot — including a man who is hospitalized at this hour with critical injuries. The other wounded individual was initially reported in stable condition.

Additional details about the shooting are not yet known and are under investigation.
