JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A search for two Louisiana girls, who were allegedly abducted after their mother was killed, has ended tragically in Mississippi.

Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said the suspect at the center of an Amber Alert, Daniel Callihan, was captured in Jackson after a chase.

According to Wade, 4-year-old Erin Brunett was found dead in a wooded area. Her sister, 6-year-old Jalie Brunett, was found alive, and was taken to a Jackson hospital for treatment.

Wade said he didn’t believe Callihan is the girls’ father, but didn’t elaborate further.

The police chief said there was evidence that could be associated with human trafficking at the location where Callihan was found, including small animal cages. Wade said Jackson police have contacted human trafficking investigators to assess the scene.

Authorities said the Amber Alert was issued Thursday for the two girls, who were abducted after their mother was killed in Loranger, Louisiana.

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards said 35-year-old Callie Brunett was found dead by her father on the floor of her bedroom inside her locked mobile home. She had been reported missing by her parents 24 hours earlier. They had last spoken to her Tuesday morning.

(NewsNation) — The World Trade Center bombing in 1993. Oklahoma City bombing in 1995. The Boston Marathon bombing in 2013.

FBI bomb scientist Kirk Yeager played an integral role in all of those investigations.

“(Those memories) stay with you, unfortunately,” Yeager said. “But another thing that stays with you as well is all the good that you’ve done and all the wonderful people you worked with and the difference you’ve made.”

Part of Yeager’s work in investigating explosions involves rebuilding the explosive devices that were used in various attacks, even rebuilding the pressure cooker bomb used by Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev in the Boston Marathon bombing.

“It depends on the case,” he said. “In some instances, we rebuild so that we can understand what we think happened based on the evidence and how we put together a suspected device.”

In the case of the Boston bombing, however, Yeager said they didn’t need to do much reconstruction.

“It was more demonstrative because we had so much video and obviously all the witnesses to the carnage,” he said. “We didn’t have to prove what that bomb was going to do. Sometimes, we have to prove what a bomb would do if we didn’t intercept it early on.”

In his new book, “The Bomb Doctor: A Scientist’s Story of Bombers, Beakers, and Bloodhounds,” Yeager sheds light on what motivates attackers who use explosive devices.

“It’s usually a person or group of people who feel something integral to themselves is under assault by some greater power,” he said. “And, sadly, something in their personality allows them to lash out with acts of violence. To address this perceived wrong, they’ll produce a bomb to target whatever they feel their oppressor is.”
