Australia and Fiji have signed the Ocean of Peace Alliance, a formal treaty elevating their relationship as part of Canberra’s strategy to limit China’s influence across the Pacific. PMs Anthony Albanese and Sitiveni Rabuka signed the pact in Suva on Monday. The alliance is open to other Pacific nations, paving the way for New Zealand, PNG and Tonga to join. It marks Australia’s second new alliance in under 12 months, following a deal with Papua New Guinea in October. For 75 years, Canberra held formal alliances only with the U.S. and New Zealand.
