Imagine these scenarios: A marine biologist publishes a book saying the Titanic never happened. A sportscaster calls out the wrong sports team as the winner. A malignant narcissist says Democrats are killing babies three days after birth. In each scenario, there is no pushback.

Well, then, people might start to believe the Titanic is a tall tale. After all, no one has pushed back against this marine biologist’s claims. The wrong sports team would be rewarded. After all — nobody corrected the sportscaster’s snafu. And a lying liar’s claims of Democratic baby killing might make some BELIEVE that monstrous claim.

In the wake of Thursday’s debate, people are talking — about the moderators. Jake Tapper. Dana Bash. WHERE THE HELL WERE THEY? I say this because although they may have been there physically, their souls seemed out to lunch.

They, indeed, weren’t present at the debate as Donald Trump lied and lied and lied and lied and lied and lied and lied and lied and lied. “Faces of the Collapse of American Media.” Yes, that’s what these two are being called. They are being mocked mercilessly by scores of angry debate watchers who watched these pieces of petrified wood sit uselessly and dumbly, unable to open their mouths for even one fact check.

“Jake Tapper and Dana Bash should never be allowed to moderate a presidential event again.” These two “reporters” should have expected this blowback. From the beginning, this writer had concerns, especially about Tapper.

“Apparently debate moderation means a person who can read questions off a card.” – Charlotte Clymer. She is correct. You — or I — or ANYONE READING THIS ARTICLE could have done better. CNN had a chance on Thursday, a chance to get back in the game, to show they are still relevant, that they’re not the useless elevator muzak of politics that they have become.

. . .

They failed. This was one of the biggest, loudest political failures I can think of. CNN should be ashamed as thousands of Twitter users told (and are telling) them. A moderator is NOT supposed to be a lump of coal, a piece of wood, or a kindling unable to start a fact-checking fire by using their MOUTHS to tell the country that lies are being spoken. Instead with their silence, they merely fanned the flames of incompetence.
