Kavelashvili, Botchorishvili in Milan for Winter Olympics

Georgian Dream-elected President Mikheil Kavelashvili, Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili, and Sports Minister Shalva Gogoladze are in Milan, Italy, to attend the opening ceremony of the 25th Winter Olympic Games. The ceremony is slated to take place at Milan’s San Siro Olympic Stadium on February 6.

According to the President’s Administration, Kavelashvili and Botchorishvili attended a reception hosted by International Olympic Committee President Kirsty Coventry. The press release says that during the event, they met with several foreign leaders, including U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The photos show Georgian officials posing for a group photo alongside Vance, Rubio, and other foreign representatives, and Kavelashvili and Botchorishvili shaking hands with Vance during an encounter.

“The discussions placed particular emphasis on the shared values of the two countries,” the administration said.

Kavelashvili and the Georgian delegation also met with the country’s figure skaters participating in the Games. “During the meeting, the President expressed his gratitude to the athletes for their achievements at the European Championships,” the President’s Administration said.

Georgia will be represented at the Olympics by eight athletes competing in two disciplines: figure skating and alpine skiing.
