Today in 1979, Vietnamese troops capture Phnom Penh ending a four-year bloodbath by Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge. The invasion follows years of Khmer Rouge raids into Vietnam culminating in the massacre of 3,000 civilians at Ba Chúc. Vietnamese troops will occupy Cambodia until 1989.
