When I look back on 2024, everything is subsumed by the shame and grief over being part of a society that facilitated Israel’s mass murder and ceaseless terror of Palestinians. There are many horrors around the world, but the Gaza genocide could have been prevented with a single phone call from Biden to Netanyahu. Instead the Biden admin, with the support of the political and media establishment in the “rules-based” Western order, facilitated and whitewashed Israel’s barbarism. The normalized genocide of innocents trapped in a besieged death camp for every day of 2024 is one of the worst crimes in human history.
